Background:
Scout is a student-led design collective at Northeastern University with eight dynamic teams and over 110 team members. The conference team focuses specifically on Scout’s annual design conference, a one-day event where we strive to cultivate change in the future of design through the discussion, sharing, and connection of students and professionals alike. On March 30, 2024, Scout proudly presented the 7th annual Interventions conference, Collide!

Insight/Learnings
Directing this conference was definitely the most stressful thing I’ve ever done in my life so far. Many late nights, countless meetings, and never-ending slack messages. Though I would consider anyone taking on this position a little bit crazy, it was absolutely the most enriching and rewarding endeavor I’ve taken on throughout my college career. I gained a lot of tangible skills such as team leadership, event operations, sponsorship outreach, to name a few. More than that, however, the most valuable skill that I gained through this experience was an entirely new sense of confidence. Going into this position, I had absolutely no idea what I was doing and felt extremely under qualified. Throughout the year, I learned that 1. no one really knows what they are doing and 2. being okay with feeling uncomfortable is where growth flourishes. It was an absolute rollercoaster of a ride and I’m so grateful to have had the opportunity.
